Why do we get so distracted?
Why can't we achieve the things we really want?
Why do some things appear so easy for some people and so difficult for others?
I don’t have the answers. I don’t think anyone really does. Even those who appear to have it all together still struggle with things in life.
Weight — Happiness — Relationships
Nothing is perfect. It's all about perspective.
Life is challenging. I have financially successful friends who are overweight and have health issues, I have super healthy friends who struggle financially. The one thing I see on both sides is distraction and priorities.
Financially successful people prioritize their money and work. They will skip the gym to have the one last meeting, they will skip breakfast to go to the office.
Healthy people will leave the office early to make their pilates class or cancel a meeting to get an extra bike ride in.
I don’t think there is any wrong or right here. But, you do need to prioritize the things you really want.
It appears that we all want balance but what does balance really mean?
Balance: Even Distribution: This refers to an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady.
I think balance means many different things to different people. My balanced life is probably not yours and vice versa. And I think this changes throughout our lives. But the overarching theme seems to be that if you master your mind the rest will follow.
You know when you are trying to lose those few kilos and you reach for that cake? Or you get angry with your partner and you overreact.
Mastering your mind in these situations is the key. I think everyone can improve here. The mind needs to be trained. It takes time and effort.
Take the first time you tried to meditate. How long can you sit there with empty thoughts? Maybe 10 secs. It takes time to get to 1 minute, 5 minutes, etc.
Mastering your mind takes time.
When you get angry pay attention to your thoughts.
When you’re in the gym and you want to put the weight down, ask yourself can you do one more rep or one more set?
When you reach for that next beer, pause for 5 seconds and ask yourself do you really need it.
Pay attention to what you’re paying attention to.
